If you choose to view a dataset, you will be presented with a page of visualizations (plus access to Download and Analyze buttons). The top of this page should look familiar, as it is the same as what you saw when you selected “More visualizations” from the dataset builder.
Document Distribution Chart
At the top is the same document distribution chart from the builder page:
This tells you how many documents from each provider and year are in the dataset you are reviewing.
Term Frequency Viewer
The next visualization is the Term Frequency viewer:
If you have ever used the Google n-gram viewer, it is pretty similar. You may enter any terms you like in the text entry slot …
... and see how many documents they occur in within the dataset you are building each year.
If you aren’t sure what terms to enter, try one of the ones we suggest (identified through term frequency analysis of your dataset):
You may choose to view the chart by the percentage of documents in which your terms occur in your dataset or the total documents in which the terms occur:
Top Words
The top words visualization presents several varieties of “top words” from your dataset in two ways.
There is a word cloud, that considers the words used most frequently across your dataset:
We also provide a list of those same most frequently used words and also a count of the number of documents in which each of those most frequent words occur
If you are interested in the most significant words in your dataset, choose to Analyze it and do a term frequency-inverse document frequency analysis (TF-IDF).
Document List
At the bottom of the dataset page, you may review the citations of the documents in your dataset.
Where possible, we are linking out to the documents in case you need a manual review. Please note that we are not presenting the readable view in our application, but linking out to the content at its original provider -- which means that whether you can see the content or not may be dependent upon you or your institution’s subscriptions.
Other Visualizations?
We would like to add additional visualizations to this page and if you have suggestions, please let us know at tdm@ithaka.org.
